Bruce R. Corbett
Bruce R. Corbett, born Rochester, New York, July 29, 1944; admitted to bar, 1970, California. Preparatory education, Hamilton College and University of Pennsylvania (B.A., 1966); legal education, Cornell University (J.D., 1969). Member: Orange County Bar Association (Member: Business Litigation Section).
Mr. Corbett was employed with major law firms in New York and Los Angeles prior to becoming a partner at Rutan & Tucker. He was a co founder of Corbett & Steelman in 1979.
Mr. Corbett specializes in civil litigation and represents corporate and real estate clients. He has extensive business litigation experience involving contract disputes, negligence, fraud, complex real estate transactions, trade secret, antitrust and trademark litigation.
Mr. Corbett assisted in the defense of General Motors against claims of anti pollution control device restraint. He defended corporations in several class action suits brought by consumers. He argued the position which resulted in an appellate court decision in California that sales tax returns are privileged information exempt from discovery.
Mr. Corbett has been lead counsel in litigation involving hospital antitrust claims, specific performance in real estate transactions, protection of trade secrets and trademarks, wrongful termination defense, and corporate dissolution. He has defended entities in environmental claims arising out of the National Environmental Policy Act, California Environmental Quality Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. He has represented a federal regulatory agency in litigation involving failed financial institutions. He recently represented several participant institutional lenders in an action against the developer for a large failed real estate project.
